A poetic review by Rodger Lowenthal

Start with self-deprecating humor

step to the weird and odd: “A Working Act,”

“How to Catch a Fly Ball with Your Teeth”

then to the macabre and grisly: “The Last Episode”

a double edged sword lurking in “The Past”

the mundane freshened

by a coat of verbal punch

Steffen reveals himself

easily, unselfconsciously

attacking in “Advice for a Famous Poet”

with mordant humor in “Killing Time”

and “Snow Penis”

The language is precise, accurate

in “Synonymy” unexpected discovery

“At the Fertility Clinic” describes mechanical “pleasure”

Bottom line – Steffen does not hold back

the reader is immediately comfortable

in the poet’s world

One response to “Bad Behavior by Michael Steffen

  1. Okay, the book’s name might not have caught my attention, but the cover photo is arresting. Much to be said for art.
