PETS IN VICTORIAN AMERICA

Katherine C. Grier visits Ryerss for a lecture entitled “At Home with Animals: Pets in Victorian America.” Ms. Grier is a professor in the Department of History at the University of Delaware. She directs the Museum Studies Program and is an expert on the history of domestic life in the United States. She is the author of “Pets in America: A History”. In her book she mentions the Ryerss family and their animal welfare activism as well as their pet portraits and pet cemetery
