Jack Kerouac & Ed White – Where Celine Raged

A new release from Bottle of Smoke Press

where celine

Letters, 12pp. Book measures 7″ x 10″. Contains two letters, one from each author, from 1949. Cover lettering and internal artwork by FAILE. Tipped in photograph frontispiece.

An amazing pair of letters written when Jack Kerouac (1922-1969) had just sold his first novel (The Town and the City) and Ed White (1925-) was living the life of a young American in Paris. Jack Kerouac and Ed White met in 1946 at Columbia University and maintained a lifelong friendship. Ed White appears in On the Road as “Tim Gray” and in Visions of Cody as “Ed Gray”. He is credited with suggesting, in 1951, that Kerouac try “sketching with words rather than writing conventionally.”
