Fox Chase Farm is located on Pine Road in Philadelphia. The Farm is part of the Fairmount Park System and is operated by The School District of Philadelphia. The farm is bordered on the south by Shady Lane, on the west by Lorimar Park, on the north by the Pennypack Creek and on the east side by the expansive Pennypark Park. The farm is located at the base of Mount Stanley and its pastures rise along the mount to the top.

The first owner of the area the farm sits upon was Lord Stanley who received a land grant from William Penn. Over the years the farm was operated by various families and at one point in time as a mental health facility, until such time as developers gained control and planned on building town homes on the site. The city of Philadelphia stepped in and purchased the farm and it has remained Philadelphia’s only working farm. The farm is utilized by the City of Philadelphia School District for educational purposes and is open to the general public throughout the year for special events.

A walk along the fence line provides one with a beautiful view of the farms flowing pastures along the mount and when lucky, farm animals roaming about. From the center point of Mount Stanley, a great view of the Pennypack Valley is had. One can make a full day of it hiking the farm and the adjacent Lorimar Park in Montgomery County or turning east can tour the Pennypack Nature Sanctuary and Environmental Center.
