Book Shopping in Fox Chase

lions park

Surprisingly enough with the artsy appearance of downtown Fox Chase with the Blooming Artist Studio, Iconic Gallery, a soon to open design studio in Fox Chase Plaza and our small restaurant row there is not an independent bookstore. Yet there are a few places you can get your book fix in Fox Chase.

Ryerss Museum and Library located at 7370 Central Avenue offers two venues for your book fix. On the first Saturday of every month The Friends of Ryerss sponsors a used book sale in the basement of the museum. Their offerings are eclectic and are priced individually and by the bag. In the main library there is ongoing vintage book sale where you may find that jewel you have been looking for.  For more information visit Ryerss on line at: http://www.ryerssmuseum.org/

Thrift Shop

In the heart of Fox Chase, The Thrift Shop, recently renovated, has an expanded book offering at 7963 Oxford Avenue.

A snapshot of Voting in Fox Chase

A check of four polling places in Fox Chase revealed a snapshot of election day. Between 7 am and 9:30 am I visited  four polling places, The American Legion Hall, Fox Chase Library, Memorial Presbyterian Church of Fox Chase and Ryerss Museum and Library. Election officials reported in the area of 100 voters had cast ballots with lines early in the morning. Election officials said voting is steady since the initial opening of the polls and that they expect heavy lines between 4 pm and 8 pm  Frigid temperatures haven’t kept poll workers for candidates from idling outside of voting places nor voters from casting their vote . Due to the predictions of long lines it is advisable if you can to get out and vote early to avoid the bitter cold projected for this evening.

Remember if you don’t vote don’t complain!
