Join us for the kick-off of Family Style’s Spring 2013 season with the special theme of Stories of Where We Come From, in conjunction with the Philadelphia Free Library’s 2013 One Book One Philadelphia selectionThe Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka. All open mic attendees will receive a free raffle ticket for three chances to win a copy of the book!
Gowri Koneswaran (pictured above center) is a Sri Lankan Tamil American poet, singer and lawyer. Her advocacy has addressed animal welfare, the environment, and the rights of prisoners and the criminally accused. She was a Lannan Fellow of the Folger Shakespeare Library and a member of the 2010 DC Southern Fried Slam team, and has performed at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.  Gowri tweets on-the-spot haiku @gowricurry
