Lackawanna Valley Digital Archives – History of Poets

The Lackawanna Valley Digital Archives have made available videos of a number of poets reading at the Scranton Public Library . These poets visited Scranton from the late 1970s through the 1990s and were filmed as part of the Friends of the Scranton Public Library Poetry Series. Jim Daniels’recent books include Trigger Man: More Tales of the Motor City, fiction, (Winner, Midwest Book Award), Having a Little Talk with Capital P Poetry, (Poetry Gold Medal, Independent Publisher Book Awards), and All of the Above, all published in 2011. In 2010, he wrote and produced the independent film “Mr. Pleasant,” his third produced screenplay, which appeared in more than a dozen film festivals across the country, and From Milltown to Malltown (a collaborative book with photographs of Homestead, PA, by Charlee Brodsky), was published. His next book of poems, Birth Marks, will be published in 2013 by BOA Editions. At Carnegie Mellon University, he is the Thomas Stockham Professor of English. His poem “Factory Love” is displayed on the roof of a race car.

e. jean lanyon is one of the founders of 2nd Saturday Poets.  She began writing poems and stories when she was eight years old, and had her first poem published at thirteen.  As a Fine Artist, e. jean paints what she cannot write, and writes what she cannot paint.  Her works have been widely published in local and national magazines and anthologies.  She has received many prizes and honors.  A first book, THE MYRNO BIRD, was published in 1970.  THE ROSE BUSH was published in 2003.  Four chapbooks of poetry have been published since 1976.  For 22 years (1979 – 2001), e. jean served as Poet Laureate of the State of Delaware.  She tries to encourage other writers whenever she can, and wherever she can.

        Open mic to follow the featured readings   

The Jackson Inn is located at the corner ofNorth DuPont Road and Lancaster Avenue, across the street from the Lancaster Avenue entrance to the Silverbrook Cemetery and facing the large sculpture on the corner of North DuPont Road that fronts the Cab Calloway School for the Performing Arts (the old Wilmington High School).  There will be the usual $5 cover, which gifts the featured readers. Free parking is available in the parking lot that surrounds the Inn. The food is tasty and reasonably priced!

NOTE:  The Jackson Inn holds a tavern license, and while it serves food, it is restricted to the limitations of a tavern for serving alcohol. That means Second Saturday attendees MUST BE 21 or older to attend readings at the Jackson Inn.
