Conversations and Connections in Philadelphia

From Cold Front Magazine

Published on Friday, September 14th, 2012

On September 22, Philadelphia becomes host to the sixth annualConversations and Connections: Practical Advice on WritingConference. The event, originally hosted in Washington D.C., and making it’s Philadelphia debut this year, is hosted by the editors of Barrelhouse and Baltimore Review. The conference features keynote speaker Stuart O’Nan as well as fourteen panels on topics including poetry, fiction, non-fiction and publication. Scheduled poetry panels include “Identity and Subjectivity in Poetry,” “A Cut to Shine: Editing Choices in Poetry,” and “Using Traditional Forms in Poetry.”

There’s a lot packed into the day long length of the conference, which also includes a “speed-dating” with the editors of literary magazines event, and book sales managed by Vouched Books. The low registration fee of $65 includes a subscription to a participating magazine and a book from one of the panel speakers. Participating magazines include: Artichoke Haircut, Barrelhouse, the Believer, Big Lucks, The Common, StoryQuarterly, Ploughshares, Gigantic Sequins, Painted Bride Quarterly, Cobalt, Eyeshot, Philadelphia Stories, Three Quarters Review, Northville Review, Apiary, and Glitterpony.
