Lunch in the Victorian Tea Room, homemade baked goods. wassail bowl, magnificent decorations and exquisite crafts, gifts, fresh wreaths and holiday decorations for sale. A reading by Poet in Residence Diane Sahms-Guarnieri, Live music. SANTA VISITS AT 10:30. Raffle of valuable prizes. Used book sale in the basement. Donation point for winter coats and pet supplies.

George Wylesol, president of The Friends of Ryerss said, “This year’s event offers something for everyone. We expect quite an assortment of vendors with a variety of wares including home-made candy, jewelry and fine holiday craft items, to name a few.  And, word has it that St. Nick, himself, will make a personal appearance at 10:30 that morning.”

First Annual Ryerss Poetry Workshop with Poet in Residence Diane Sahms-Guarnieri

The first annual Ryerss Museum and Library Adult Poetry Workshop was held on October 4th. The workshop was booked up almost immediately when announced and attracted poets from the Philadelphia area, Delaware and New Jersey. Poet in Residence Diane Sahms-Guarnieri led the workshop that was held between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Sahms-Guarnieri began her service as Poet in Residence with a reading at the Ryerss Christmas celebration, conducted a Youth Poetry Contest with winners Ryerss Youth Poetry Contest Reading 029reading at Ryerss for National Poetry Month and wrote a poem  in honor of poet-in-residence-diane-sahms-guarnieri - Ryerss BirthdayRobert W. Ryerss birthday that was read at the celebration.


Get Your Book On – October 4th

Ryerss Museum and Library is holding its monthly used book sale in Norma’s Nook in the basement of the museum. You can buy books by the bag or individual volumes. The Nook is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. While you are there take a free tour of the museum and check out the vintage books for sale in the main library where you will find Poet in Residence Diane Sahms-Guarnieri and a group of poets at the first annual Poetry Workshop.

Ryerss Museum Announces Poet in Residence

Local Poet will host various events at Museum and Library

???????????????????????????????Lawndale poet and Poetry Editor of the Fox Chase Review, Diane Sahms-Guarnieri, has been appointed Poet in Residence at the Ryerss Museum and Library. The poetry of Sahms-Guarnieri has been published widely in the small and electronic press and her first full length collection, Images of Being was published in 2011. She has been active in the literary community of Philadelphia conducting workshops and open mics; serving on editorial staffs; and co-hosting The Fox Chase Reading Series.

Diane has performed her poetry at various venues along the east coast of the United States. In 2013, she received a grant in poetry from the AEV foundation based in New York. Sahms-Guarnieri said she is looking forward to serving as Poet in Residence, “I am honored by this appointment and look forward to following in the footsteps of the Ryerss family, whom had poetry running through their bloodlines and had a faithful commitment to the community.” Sahms-Guarnieri said she is looking forward to bringing new visitors to Ryerss through workshops, poetry and art exhibits, and a youth poetry contest/reading for 9th to 12th grade students at area high schools. Sahms-Guarnieri will read a poem during the Victorian Christmas Bazar and Tea.
