Tonight: Poets in the Park

A mild summer breeze will be cascading across Lions Park tonight for the 2nd annual Poets in the Park 2011. Come on out and enjoy an evening of poetry in heart of Fox Chase, 7900 Oxford Avenue.  The program will run from 7:30pm to about 9:30pm. July 16th @7:30pm – The Fox Chase Reading Series and The Rockledge/Fox Chase Business Association present a magical evening of poetry in Lions  Park, 7900 Oxford Avenue, Philadlephia, Pa. 19111.


The Fox Chase Reading Series and The Rockledge/Fox Chase Business Association present the 2nd Annual Poets in the Park on July 16th at Lions Park, 7900 Oxford Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa. This year, Poets Thaddeus  Rukowski, Timothy Gager, Leonard Gontarek and Chad Parenteau join Fox Chase Poets Diane Sahms-Guarnieri and g emil reutter reading in Lions Park in the heart of Fox Chase. Bring a lawn chair, a blanket and settle in for a magical evening of poetry in Fox Chase.


Diane Sahms-Guarnieri was born, raised, and is still residing in Philadelphia.  Images of Being, her first full-length collection, is slated for release in October 2011.  Her work has been published locally, nationally, and internationally in the small and electronic press. She is currently the Poetry Editor of The Fox Chase Review (2009 –present); served on the Editorial Board of Philadelphia Stories; founded and facilitated the Center City Poets’ Workshop at Borders Bookstore, Philadelphia (2006-2011).  Diane has performed her poetry at venues in Philadelphia; Harrisburg; Southeastern Pennsylvania; Delaware; Cambridge, Massachusetts; and New York.  You can visit her at http://dianesahmsguarnieri.wordpress.com/

G Emil Reutter is a Poet currently residing in the Fox Chase Neighborhood of Philadelphia. Eight volumes of his prose and poetry have been published. You  can visit him at www.gemilreutter-author.com



Leonard Gontarek is a Philadelphia Poet. He is the author of four books of poems: St. Genevieve Watching Over Paris, Van Morrison Can’t Find His Feet, Zen For Beginners,and Déjà Vu Diner (Autumn House Press, 2006). His poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Fence, Field, Pool, Volt, The Quarterly, Exquisite Corpse, Hanging Loose, Poetry Northwest, Blackbird and The Best American Poetry (Paul Muldoon, editor). His poems also appear in the anthologies Joyful Noise! American Spiritual Poetry and The Working Poet. He has been nominated five times for the Pushcart Prize, and twice received poetry fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. He conducts poetry workshops at The University City Arts League, Moonstone Art Center, The Kelly Writers House and in the Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership. Thaddeus Rutkowski is a poet from the LOWER EAST SIDE West Village in New York City. He is the author of the novels Tetched and Roughhouse. Both books were finalists for an Asian American Literary Award. His  latest release is THE NOVEL Haywire. Thaddeus teaches LITERATURE AT CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK AND fiction writing at the Writer’s Voice of the West Side YMCA  COULD CUT “IN MANHATTAN”  in Manhattan. Timothy Gager is a poet from Somerville Massachusetts and hosts the popular Dire Literary Series in Cambridge Massachusetts.  He has published eight volumes of poetry and prose. His work is widely published on the Web and in print. He lives at timothygager.com. Poetry in Fox Chase- Saturday July 25th

On July 25th @ 2pm The Fox Chase Review and The Mad Poets Society  present The Fox Chase Reading Series @ 3 Sisters Corner Café featuring poets Vincent Quatroche from Fredonia New York and Timothy Gager from Boston. The café is located at the corner of Barnes and Loney Streets in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia and is easily accessed by public transportation- R-8 Fox Chase Local and the 18 and 24 Septa Bus Routes. An open mic follows.

Quatroche and Gager

Vincent Quatroche is from Fredonia New York and is a Professor at Fredonia State University . Quatroche has released two CD’S of his work at Sleeping Giant Records and has published several full length collections of his poetry and prose. Quatroche was recently nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Timothy Gager is the author of seven books of short fiction and poetry. The poetry chapbooks, These Poems are not Pink Clouds (Propaganda Press) and this is where you go when you are gone (Cerena Barva Press) were released in 2008. He hosts the Dire Literary Series in Cambridge, Massachusetts every month and is the co-founder of Somerville News Writers Festival.

His Short Stories have appeared in Twelve Stories, Word Riot, Skive, Dogzplot, Six Sentences, 55 Word, The Binnacle, Scene Boston, Thieve’s Jargon, Long Short Story, The Smoking Poet, Zygote in My Coffee, Slurve, Poor Mojo’s Almanac, Tuesday Shorts, VerbSap, Long Short Story, The Smoking Poet, Write This Magazine and Further Fenway Fiction. Timothy’s poetry has been published in The Blood Orange Review, The Fox Chase Review, Night Train, Poems for All, Right Hand Pointing, GUD, Boston Poetry Journal (Bad Ass Edition), Edifice Wrecked, Blue Print Review, Barnstorm, Lit Up Magazine, Hobart, The Long Islander, Spare Change, Delmarva Review, High Horse, Third Lung Review, Poesy XXIV and The Ibbetson Street Journal. He has had over 150 works of fiction and poetry published since 2007 and of which four have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize.

Timothy is the current Fiction Editor of The Wilderness House Literary Review, the founding co-editor of The Heat City Literary Review and has edited the book, Out of the Blue Writers Unite: A Book of Poetry and Prose from the Out of the Blue Art Gallery.

A graduate of the University of Delaware, Timothy lives in Dedham, Massachusetts and is employed as a social worker.
