The Tenth Muse Workshop with Diane Sahms-Guarnieri

Only 15 spots open

A Poetry Workshop for Novice & Experienced Poets

Workshop Leader: Diane Sahms-Guarnieri

Sponsored by The Fox Chase Reading Series
Saturday, November 10, 2012, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Hop Angel Brauhaus, 7980 Oxford Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa. 19111

Poems are words. These words are uniquely the poets and may through the revision process become poems, which will merit a place in any publication. In creating, there is always room for revision, as T.S. Eliot writes in Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, “for decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.” The poet always has final say in the completion of their poem(s); however, “Workshopping” can be a means whereby a poet is joined by other poets in the tedious revision process. This workshop will afford each poet a unique opportunity to read/perform one of their own poems in front of others; to hear their work read by another; and to have constructive input from others, while being guided by the workshop leader. Revisions by peers are only meant as suggestions (to be regarded or discarded). This workshop may be just what you’re looking for to assist you in the revision process and ultimately help you in finishing a poem, or it may get you just one step farther along in the revision process. Whatever the outcome, this will be an enjoyable event.

Diane Sahms-Guarnieri is a native Philadelphia poet and currently the poetry editor of The Fox Chase Review. She has served on the editorial board of Philadelphia Stories magazine and founded The Center City Poets Workshop. Her poetry has been published in The Southern Ocean Review, Wilderness House Literary Review, Autumn Sky Poetry, Many Mountains Moving, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Fox Chase Review, Folio, Philadelphia Stories, Mid-West Cultural Council, Mad Poets Review, Northern Liberties Review, Levittown Leader, The Camel Saloon, Limited Editions among others.

Her latest release is Images of Being. Nicolette Milholin of the Montgomery County News said of Images of Being,“Like a well-written memoir, Sahms-Guarnieri’s work shoots straight to the center of human experience instead of hiding pain under a false fabric of pretension.” Barbara Bialick of the Boston Area Small Press and Poetry Scene said, “To Diane Sahms-Guarnieri, images are an all-important way she remembers people from her childhood and on into motherhood.”

The workshop will be limited to 15 participants. Reserve your spot now. The cost of the workshop is $25.00. Please register for the workshop and send two poems no later than 10/20/12 in word doc to foxchasereadingseries@yahoo.com attention Diane Sahms-Guarnieri
