Winners of The 2nd Ryerss Museum and Library Youth Poetry Contest Announced

Poet in Residence of Ryerss Museum and Library, Diane Sahms-Guarnieri has announced the winners of the 2nd Ryerss Museum and Library Youth Poetry Contest. Winning students will read their poems in celebration of National Poetry Month on April 4th @ 1 p.m. in the 2nd floor gallery of Ryerss.

First Annual Ryerss Poetry Workshop with Poet in Residence Diane Sahms-Guarnieri

The first annual Ryerss Museum and Library Adult Poetry Workshop was held on October 4th. The workshop was booked up almost immediately when announced and attracted poets from the Philadelphia area, Delaware and New Jersey. Poet in Residence Diane Sahms-Guarnieri led the workshop that was held between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.


Attendees included, Wendy Schermer, Maria Keane, Bert Moniz, James Diamond, Melanie Eyth, Michele Grottola, Linda Texter Hall, Siobhan Gannon, Chris Chandler and Jane Miller

Sahms-Guarnieri began her service as Poet in Residence with a reading at the Ryerss Christmas celebration, conducted a Youth Poetry Contest with winners Ryerss Youth Poetry Contest Reading 029reading at Ryerss for National Poetry Month and wrote a poem  in honor of poet-in-residence-diane-sahms-guarnieri - Ryerss BirthdayRobert W. Ryerss birthday that was read at the celebration.

Ryerss Museum and Library presents the winners of the First Annual Youth Poetry Contest on April 5th @ 1 pm. Poet in Residence Diane Sahms-Guarnieri will host this event and cash awards and certificates will be issued by Ryerss Museum and Library and The Friends of Ryerss. Theme: Ryerss &/or Burholme Park Related

Be inspired by artifacts in the museum, the Victorian era, pet cemetery,

stables, sled hill, athletic fields, picnic grounds, playground, etc.

Requirement: Each student may submit only one poem/one page

font 12 pt. in Times New Roman

Submit to: Poet-in-Residence, Diane Sahms-Guarnieri, via email


Deadline: Midnight 3/1/14

Prizes: First place winners in each grade, (9-12), will be awarded $50.00 by

The Friends of Ryerss

Top five winners in each grade, (9-12), will be invited to a special poetry

Reading on April 5, 2014 to read their award winning poem during
